  1. ‘pbbm opened the door, harris stormed thru’ . . . ‘ e di wow na wow!

really, pbbm even said in one of his televised moments, “I need your help . . . ” and if he was speaking to the whole sambayanan, I got the biggest eye roll for him, thankfully no one saw me, lol!

I need your help, and yet pbbm already appointed his own best and brightest, their qualifications long as their arms, their influence far reaching, their fame stratospheric. and if still pbbm needs help from me and you and god knows who else! I wonder what more his best and brightest need to do to be of further help to him.

if pbbm listens to citizens, they are already saying, pay your estate tax! help the country and do your civic duty.

ah, not this kind of help pbbm needs? a reminder of what he must do first and foremost.

maybe, pbbm ought not be too needy and greedy for help. he already has the best and brightest at his employ plus the humongous budget already at his disposal!

as well, maybe next time, pbbm will be definite and pinpoint exactly what help he needs for if he needs his ingrown nail cut asap, dont call me, lol!

  2. it is quiet dito, the cat is away kaya ang mouse na ito will play!

it’s funny that once pbbm opened the door, senator bato got a drift and drafted a bill legalizing drugs, but bato seemed to have cold feet recently. I think it is progressive of senator bato to be thinking of legalizing drugs. kaso pdea is talagang opposed to legalizing drugs maybe for the reason na mawawalan sila ng uberly high paying jobs and the perks that went with it. what would pdea rank and file do when there is no more illegal drug trade to be busted?

pdea said legalizing drug would send wrong message to kids, but what if it’s the right message? stigma of drug use would be lessened, drugs lords would have to be licensed and registered as drug manufacturers and procurers and from their income, they would be obliged to pay tax used to rehab addicts and fund better drug education at schools and colleges.

at tama si senator bato, legalizing drugs would not only free up jail, it would also lessen the secrecy and midnight deals of illegal drug trade. drugs is not only health problem, it is also economic problem as well as social problem.

drugs again! I think senator lapid’s proposed bill is medyo silly. withholding drug overdose attracts fine?

if drug overdose leads to murder, there should be prosecution, not fine. and if senator lapid want better reporting of drug overdose, I think dr eric tarag can enlighten; doh already has nationwide epidemiological data on drug overdoses region by region and across all walks of life. all senator lapid has to do is ask and he’ll be likely provided a copy. but what will lapid do with the controversial data? data in the wrong hands is potential for blackmail. many influential families dont want it known their kind and celebrated relative is drug fatality.

  4. soliloquy:
maharlika sovereign wealth fund: wealth and fund side by side and in closest proximity ay parang overkill! it’s raining money, lol!

govt’s initial outlay of 250billion with money (commandeered?) from sss, gsis, and other govt institutions to be invested in high risk investment (crypto?) is uber beneficial to the people kuno. economists are forcasting earnings between 7% to 14% p.a. malaki daw yan. kaso, such earning is taxable, mswf has to pay tax. baka ayaw nila magbayad ng buhis, o baka ipasa ang buhis at yong mga recepients ay sila ang magbayad. if govt pay tax, recipients can expect to receive less.

it must also be considered that sometimes, investments have negative return, shares and stock market do crash.

anyhow, if pbbm is innovative, he’ll likely use mswf to fund the oil exploration in west phil sea. prosperous firms already here and doing business can always partner with him. and together, oil exploration is bigger possibility maybe without china breathing down their necks.

we should try to be less dependent on china like what some countries are now doing.

    1. GSIS’s life span will be cut short once the government bureaucracy rightsizes. This means less contributions and instant depletion of paying the early retirees.

So good GSIS and SSS is out of the question.
BSP’s reserves driven by OFWs and BPOS should not be touched.

      So what is their plan?

      1. they would need a crystal ball, lol! kasi no business plan presented e, just sales pitch echoed and re-echoed, promos paulit, ulit: how good, how progressive, how money will flood back once maharlika investment is off the ground and put to action. ang forecast nila? we will all be swimming in money as the investment will surely bring in so much money! it was even envisaged gsis and sss will join the investment scheme, once the scheme starts bearing fruits.

but 1st, the downer: people will be asked to contribute more in the coming year. at the moment, exempted kuno ang gsis at sss at hindi gagalawin ang pondo, but that may change in the future the moment both gsis and sss reach a desirable threshold.

  5. if govt is serious about solving the mystery of the missing sabungeros, it must offer reward and the mystery will be solved in no time at all!

  6. still on maharlika wealth fund . . .

apparently mwf will have 15 members of the board, seemingly each member to have its own office space complete with staff and office equipment. they will likely rent their offices too, rent is higher in big cities, both directors and staff paid well and given bonuses and perks. I am presuming initial expenses will be taken from the initial fund as returns are probly not immediately available, and calculated yearly or monthly. and most likely, directors will have to borrow money vs the fund for their day to day office expenses.

at the moment pbbm’s economic managers are excitedly talking of the vast wealth mwf can bring back to the table, none are talking about the hidden fee likely imposed on fund investors: the administration fee or charges. hence returns will be lesser than expected.

for the sake of clarity, pbbm’s economic managers ought to discuss the amount of administration fee they will be charging so all fund investors can have informed decision.

      1. itong except sa link posted by you caused me to think: “Landbank, for instance, has an investment portfolio of P1.3 trillion in 2021 or 28.87 percent higher than the previous year, according to its latest annual report which is available online.”

I am not sure if someone have verified how true ang statement na ‘to. anything posted online is not always the whole truth.

    1. Press Release
      December 16, 2022
STATEMENT OF SENATOR RISA HONTIVEROS ON MAHARLIKA WEALTH FUND CERTIFIED AS URGENT

      Certify urgent?

This Maharlika wealth fund is premature, and a misplaced priority. Distracted na naman tayo.

Our economy is already hurting now, imagine the world of pain we’ll be in if we rush head first into a P250 billion mistake.

      1. urgent? as in act in haste and repent at leisure!

there are safeguards kuno put in place to ensure maharlike investment fund will not end up in politicians’ pocket.

kaso, if the fund is bled and drained into someones pockets, wala tayong masyadong habol! the fund kasi, sabi nila will be managed like a private corporation. and to me, that means the fund will be treated like it is private and confidential at hindi basta-bastang mabusisi; anything private is not really for public scrutiny.

hence, if the investment’s board of directors elect to have aboveboard pay to commensurate their list of economic qualifications long as their arms, we may have no say. the fund could well be paying for their qualifications, not for their productivity. kahit hindi gaanong kikita yong investment, directors pay will still be the same, and they can still claim bonuses, paid leave, and paid study leave abroad as many times as they wish!

pay is higher in order to attract the best people for the job, I’m not just sure best people also make best managers and can tell a bad investment from a good one. and if money is lost thru bad investment, maybe, it’s better to play lotto, lest we know what we are up against!

    1. ay, a drunk’s memory, matagal ko na itong pansin e, going back years ago?

each time joeam closed the door, giancarlo opens the window!

  7. Another round of Investment pledges in Brussels.
PBBM promised that we will comply with the EMSA audit. Or else Europe will send our sailors home.
But the new Maritime University is a threat in the long run because, they will convince Europeans to be seafarers and the hard times might force that option.

MWF it is literally money in the bank, but in Banco Filipino subok na matibay, subok na matatag at ngayon ay sarado na.

    1. since 2006 yata, vast number of filipino seafarers have not passed audit of european maritime safety agency (emsa). pbbm promised remedy by saying our seafarers will comply with audit, how exactly?

seafarers natin lacked accreditation on reducing risk of maritime accidents, marine pollution and loss of human lives at sea. pinoy seafarers may need to attend approved pertinent bridging courses in europe; the ones approved in our country are probly not up to par. this means added expenses and ironically, many of our seafarers are no keen to spend more on being qualified and job ready!

      1. Ang gulo ng Maritime natin.

Yung Marina head numg time ni Durs galit sa Marina head appointed by BBM.
        Kurakot daw etc

        1. maritime natin lost focus bigtime. will comply with audit kuno, pero does not mean pasado sila sa audit. seafarers natin could barely pass EU maritime exam, despite maybe being topnotcher sa pambansang exam.

kaya, rumored tuloy na many of our seafarers end up working in unregistered and colurom ships, kinakalawang at unsafe yong barko; paid less for working longer hours, bullied and trafficked pa.

when pbbm was in brussels, I did not think he visited any EU maritime schools, spoke and picked the brains of maritime heads there, and compared their curricula with ours.

  8. Back to Harris visit.
US will protect their interests so we go to the place visited By Pelosi.

The excerpt below is perplexing because it suggests: If Taiwan goes to war, we back off because it is not our war.

“Thus, any military involvement of the US in Taiwan, which is premised on the independence of Taiwan, would not qualify as defensive. The MDT itself proscribes a response from the Philippines that would violate its own national laws and international obligations affirming China’s territorial sovereignty over Taiwan. The only legitimate response on the matter by the Philippines is active noninvolvement.”

    1. kaya pala, there is swarm of chinese fleet near palawan! ayaw nating gumalaw, kaya yong china ang gumalaw palapit ng palapit sa atin.

there are many ofws in taiwan, dapat makiusyoso na tayo, keep our options open at maghanda-handa. when china attacks taiwan, simbako lang, we cannot just let our ofws be cannon fodders to the chinese, traumatized and harrassed!

methink, noninvolvement is not really option, like it or not, we shall be dragged into the conflict so we might as well be ready. we shall be involved, not militarily of course, and maybe provide medical o spiritual assistance to our allies and may even give emergency shelter to those in need. it’s our christian duty: to give succor.

        1. taiwan is not really alone, it has plenty friends and sympathizers in EU. itong active non-involvement (walang pakialam!) natin will cost as dearly. worldwide friends of taiwan are not that keen in investing in our country despite all thier pledges. para bang they are wary of us, wala tayong pakialam, kaya wala rin silang makialam sa atin.

notice how many EU heads of states are now visiting taiwan despite china’s disapproval? if we could get the same heads of states to really, truly invest in our country and open their deep pockets to us, we could be in for boom times.
