How To Help The Quezon City Public Library

I buy and read a lot of books,  my friends read and buy a lot of books. I’ve mostly weaned myslef from needing to own the books, I only have a handful of books  consider keepers and most are books that you read once or twice and pass on. This prompted us to think of creating a mini library where we could donate our books, and maybe solicit books from friends.  This “dream” is still far from happening too many things have to fall right into place. The depressed me trying to cheer myself up found myslef googling public libraries in qc. found the site for the city’s public library volunteers and I think that this is good enough for now.
Hope I can really volunteer some time and mind power in trying to do my share in trying to improve whatever can be improved etc etc.
I usually treat people when I’m depressed, think this is more productive.
(Fuck I am wallowing in self pity damn!)

Ways to help the library

The library, especially the branch libraries, are always in need of volunteers and supporters. Here are some ways you can help.
Adopt a branch library
a. Donate computers
The Main Library and Novaliches Branch are now fully computerized. The said libraries have an OPAC (online computer access catalog), 2 mbps internet connection, 7 computer units for academic research and free encoding for public elementary and high school students. We wish to replicate this to the remaining 19 branches.
You may donate working computers or support by donating any amount of money that will be used to purchase necessary equipment.
P 30,000 covers 1 computer unit
P 1, 000 covers 1 month subscription to the internet
P 7,000 covers 1 dot matrix printer
P 325 covers 1 ink for dot matrix printer
P 200 covers 1 ream of paper
Any amount, when pooled together will go a long way to help the library users in their research and academic needs.
We have prepared a feasibility study on the benefits of an interconnected library here.
b. Donate books
We want also our branch libraries to be complete in the best books, not just children books and textbooks.

c. Subscribe to magazines
The main library through the Friends of the Library, subscribes to Time, Newsweek and Reader’s Digest. We hope that through the generosity of the supporters, this will be replicated at the branches.
Be a Volunteer Storyteller or Tutorials Teacher
Teach the students the love for reading. Be a volunteer storyteller for a day. Organize storytelling sessions near schools that will promote a branch library.
Be a teacher for tutorial classes. Subjects will be basic computer skills, information literacy and other school subjects. This program is in the planning stage and is suggested for those who have weekdays to spare. This can be done during Saturdays on the following branches: Main, Novaliches, Project 4 and Galas.
Be a Friend of the Library member
We welcome idealistic and energetic people who want to put their talents to good use whether as a writer, events organizer, fundraiser and friend-raiser to let more people know about what the library is doing.

Jason Bourne 4 Now Aiming for Summer 2011 | /Film

Last we heard, Universal was trying to get a fourth film in the Jason Bourne series on track for a Summer 2010 release. Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass were signed on to return, all they needed was a screenplay and a shooting schedule that fit. But the tentatively discussed Summer 2009 shoot doesn’t seem to be on the horizon.

Some Good news before I post the acid rant.
I love the bourne series, where can you find a series that just gets better as it progresses. Have to say that “The Bourne Ultimatum ” is definitely my favorite of the bourne films. That aside when Matt Damon initially stated that he was to old to make a bourne film this saddened me a little but this was bittersweet because at least they go out in top form. The are doing a fourth film and with the whole team intact can’t help but feel giddy in this must watch movie, at least for a bourne fan (book and movie) like me.
As an aside, personally my I felt that the first book was the best whilst the last book was really weak and was trying to much to find closure that It felt well hurriedly written at times.  The three bourne films used the titles of the book but fans can attest to the fact that much like nick and norah‘s infinite play list a screen adaptation really hast to cut out alot of a books best parts to adapt itselt to the limitations of the medium.

Fate is…..


Let’s say that I was really depressed yesterday but It was fortunate that we were going to watch Monsters Vs Aliens at the IMAX theater and we just walked around mall of asia. (We being me chuck vince and marc). We went home at around 9:30 and I was really very sleepy, luckily marc read this on the headrest of the seat a few rows in front of our seat(at the back of the bus). I recognized it instantly, and what follows is what I pictured in my minds eyes as the mystery surrounding this act of vandalism that really cheered me up.
Scene at the back of a jackpherlyn bus:
A girl looks far outside the large bus windows as the bus traverses the Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard. It is already late in the afternoon and the sun is slowly setting and at the moment was directly perched aone of the peaks of the Mall Of Asia structure.
The bus stops frequently because it is a slow day, april 6; The Bataan/ Araw ng Kagitingan Holiday has been moved to monday, and most people were either enjoying thier houses, out of town or are still at the malls.
A lady with really large face hugging shades is slowly humming the song “I believe”, we know nothing about this woman, she has a small frame and wearing the typical summer shorts and bright green top that was either a short very short one piece dress or a retro circa 1980’s top that went well with leggings.  Her glasses are all fogged up. She keeps saying to herself as if trying to convince herself that it is true “fate is….”.
A man with round features tinge with a roughness that stems from a sense of organized unkemptness. He is obviously out of it.  (probably a girl told him that she’s just not into you at all (sorry him, I was thinking of a friend (ouch),  no really (and double ouch))).
He sits down beside her it’s the only seat left in the bus and he of course takes it. Sits down dazed, unconsciously rolling/twidlling a marker/pen. It’s like he is existing in another dimension prallel to this one. It seems he is living in a bubble. His face moves , he has good hearing , then he writes “building bridges of chance for someone you love”.
She stops speaking. she turns her head slowly, as if caught stealing something.
He looks down, seemingly interested in every minute detail of his black chuck taylors. Not really aware that someone is looking at him. He drops the pen. He tries to retrieve it.
She sees him lose the pen, she tries to retrieve it.
Thier hands touch. Thier eyes meet. He says HI!, She says Hello!

I couldn’t agree more.  People are just so fucking annoyed with two bit, multi faced interactions that it is personally dragging to interact with people. I remember this scene from “The Office” probably season4. Where Kelly kapoor and Darryl from the warehouse fights and kelly says. “I don’t understand him who says exactly what he means!” can’t help but feel this when talking to people I interact with hesistantly. What I mean is I tend to hang with simple people , people like darryl.  Call shit on me when I am shitting them, tear me a new one when I am getting too arrogant and all in all telling me when; Incidentally If i had only listened to them a couple of weeks ago, I probably would not be depressed and extremely fragile right now. I am like a tinderbox ready to explode any second.  Well to sum up, try to minimize the fog, speak simply and clearly, tell it to me straight and we will get along fine! In some ways I don’t like erecting walls that separate , but this is very important to me. Enough of the lies, enough of the deception tell it straight!

Which means that even if you have a really good reason, no, you can’t call me on the phone. Which means that even if it’s really important, no, I’m not going to read the instructions. Which means that god forbid you try to email me something I didn’t ask for… you’re trashed. It’s so fashionable to be skeptical now that no one believes you if you attempt to do something for the right reasons.
Selfish short-sighted marketers ruined it for all of us. The only way out, I think, is for a few marketers to so overwhelm the market with long-term, generous marketing that we have no choice but to start paying attention again.

Great News::RP steps up cash handouts to poor – INQUIRER.net, Philippine News for Filipinos

I’d rather be feeding the poor than helping politicians buy their Nth house, just hope this isn’t just a way for government officials to extract the money from the government coffers. I’d really love if they found away, for ordinary citizens through technology; to monitor such projects.

MANILA, Philippines — Five million of the Philippines’ poorest families will receive cash or health insurance benefits from the government this year, Malacañang said Friday.
A total of 321,000 families — double the original target — will qualify for cash handouts of up to P9,000 $187.50 this year, spokesman Cerge Remonde told reporters.
More than 100,000 people have either lost their jobs or suffered pay cuts as the effects of the global financial crisis hits the Philippines.
The country has been hit by plunging exports amid falling demand from recession-plagued overseas markets, according to labor department data.
Under the plans, five million families will receive the equivalent of P1,200 each in the form of medical insurance coverage, Remonde added.
The government will also retrain half a million young people aged between 15 and 24 “which is the biggest segment of the unemployed population,” he said.
The government says nine million people — or 10 percent of the population, are now jobless or underemployed.
The Asian Development Bank said Philippine economic growth would slow to 2.5 percent this year compared to 6.4 percent in 2008.

I’m writing this at the bottom on the unlikely possibility that someone other than me and a handful of my closest friends and cobloggers are reading this. Let’s call this sharing.
Let’s just say that I am a very sensitive person,I ‘ve been given insane amounts of empathy and symphat, I feel that if as chuck told me about mirror neurons (read more here) , I have an overabundance of mirror neurons. This has led me into ways of thinking and actuations that in a sense are extremely weird when viewed in the outside but in some ways still rational at least to me.
I’d like to make this along post but I’ll keep it short. I’d like to believe that all you need is love , I’d like to believe this so much. The thing is Loving hurts , it hurts a lot, it opens you up, (I have a lot to do I’m writing a post on vulnerability later I’ll call it vulnerable , all you need is love part 2)
