I saw a TED talk video of an african woman writer who sad it amazed her how her roommate only seemed to view Africa with such narrow lenses. Let us not fall to a similar conundrum. Let us see the world in all its beauty with all its parts, blemishes and everything in between!

Unless I’m reading this incorrectly, the word the writer was thinking of was comprises not compromises.

MANILA, Philippines–While they compromise almost half of the country’s population, children hardly figure in the budget and allocation for their concerns and needs remain measly every year, according to the report of the United Nations (UN) Committee on the Rights of the Child.

MANILA, Philippines-The Japanese government has allotted 3.350 billion yen grant to the Philippines to improve the country’s weather monitoring and dissemination system.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo and Japanese Ambassador Makoto Katsura on Friday signed and exchanged Notes for the Project for Improvement of the Meteorological Radar System.
The project, to be implemented by Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration and the Department of Science and Technology (PAGASA-DOST) will involve among others, the replacement of the three existing Meteorological Radar Systems in Aparri, Cagayan; Virac, Catanduanes; and Guian, Samar, with new Doppler (S-band) radar systems, the Foreign Affairs department said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has signed an agreement with the South Korean government to develop warning systems for three disaster-prone areas in the Philippines.
Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Undersecretary Graciano Yumul Jr said the South Korean government will provide a grant of $1 million over 2007-2008 for the project. Pagasa is an attached agency of the DOST.
The Koreans will provide weather monitoring facilities in three sites: in Luzon, at the Aurora River Basin in Aurora province; in the Visayas, at the Jaluar River Basin in Iloilo; and in Mindanao, at the Lake Lanao-Agus River Basin in the Lanao provinces.
Yumul said the project sites were chosen because of their vulnerability to extreme climate events.
He added that the project components include the provision of facilities such as automatic weather stations (AWS), automatic rain gauges, digital water level gauges and maintenance vehicles along with the training of Filipino counterparts in South Korea and the sending of experts who will oversee the project.

Elink Vid:UKG Mindanao: PGMA hands over ancestral domain titles to Higaonon tribe
I used to believe that this would set a bad precedent and would fracture the Philippines; but recently, I’ve come to the conclusion that if we want to survive the modern world as a nation we better really learn to embrace our differences while we embrace our similarities. I use to doubt we could. I do not know what has changed either within me or outside of me but I am more hopeful now that we can.
Good job PGMA , we almost never see eye to eye but praise to whom praise is deserved.
Learned Today::Getting a rise out of getting a rise
Wow this is enlightening. Some people really do get of at pissing other people off. Lesson learned , if someone you are irritated with actually gets of at pissing people off, well its time to be that person nobody can seem to piss off!
Participants who had higher testosterone levels responded better to angry faces than to neutral ones, even though the faces were on screen too briefly to identify. Michelle Wirth, who led the study, explained how this can possibly be correlated to other testing methods:
“Better learning of a task associated with anger faces indicates that the anger faces were rewarding, as in a rat that learns to press a lever in order to receive a tasty treat. In that sense, anger faces seemed to be rewarding for high-testosterone people, but aversive for low-testosterone people.”
So the next time it seems like that person is trying to piss you off, reward them with a knuckle sandwich.

Learned Today::The Irony of Henry Adams: The most misunderstood quote evah! : Greg Laden's Blog
Here is Henry Adam’s famous quote translated into modern parlance:
Be careful. The system of education is inadequate, and a half baked attempt to educate is dangerous. A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell how badly fucked up everything will be when he is done with it……..
I had always seen the quote as what most people seem to see to as: The nice phrase you embroider on the pillow and give to your favorite teacher. My friend Josh Borowicz, who happens to be an historian and a Henry Adams scholar, pointed this interesting irony out to me, several months ago. I vowed at that time to blog about it. And now I have.

loved reading this. read the whole thing!
Suddenly it all grinds to a halt. It’s over! The crash comes and your precious company shares, on which you have built your entire financial position, turn to dust overnight. The great big cork has popped on your champagne lifestyle – and not a moment too soon, as far as I’m concerned.
You are out of a job because the record label cannot be funded anymore, you owe the bank a fortune and your house is in negative equity. Out of the blue, you have no income, a ton of debt and nowhere to live, apart from moving back in with your parents.
In the end, you cannot get rid of the house or the stupid white Porsche quick enough. You have hit rock bottom and it is, in a strange way, a huge relief.
Yet the funny thing is, what you don’t know, Simon, is that you will never again feel so carefree in your entire life.
For a brief moment, you have no responsibilities. Literally none. No employees, no artists, no worries, nothing to fear. You have a car, a second-hand TR6, that you love much more than your Porsche.
Your parents are fantastic and you have enough decent friends – real friends – who don’t laugh at you or ditch you because you are not the big shot any more.

rePost::The Happiness Project: "Without Attention, We Cannot Go Deeply in Thought or Relations."
Nice interview from The Happiness Project. Read the whole thing!
What do you know now about happiness that you didn’t when you were 18?
My dad was the king of simple pleasures. He was not a tormented soul. I, on the other hand, was a moody, impatient kid who tried to do too much and move too fast. I could see but not really appreciate my dad’s view of the world when I was young. But he must have left his mark on me, because I’ve come to realize that life isn’t all about the tallest peaks or fastest races, and it’s certainly not about our possessions, titles, or money. Life’s meaning unfolds in both the “big moments” and the detours and pauses and tiny moments of serendipity. Being in the present, along with being present for others, is crucial. I used to have one gear: high. But now I realize that happiness comes from complicated rhythms. And it comes and goes. It’s not a state of being that once reached, sticks.
