rePost:: Linsanity ::Who should have really made the NBA All-Star team? – Grantland
Anyway, Im guessing Linsanity would narrowly edge Diaws boobs and win the “Eastern Fun Pick” vote for five reasons: Hes causing an Internet riot right now; he single-handedly saved the Knicks season and gave it life; he went to Harvard, of all places even more incredible than him breaking the Taiwanese-American barrier, in my opinion; hes a shockingly intelligent offensive player none other than Steve Nash blessed his game on Twitter recently; and most important, hes immensely fun to watch. I genuinely enjoy his herky-jerky game, the way he splits two defenders on the high screen, his deftness around the rim, his goofy jump shot, the way his teammates respond to him, his joy for basketball … its just hard for me to believe that Lin is destined to become this generations Billy Ray Bates in other words, someone who catches lightning in a bottle for a few weeks and thats it. At the very least, he should be able to ease into a J.J. Barea-esque career as an impact offensive player who occasionally swings games off the bench. Anything less and I would be disappointed. Too bad we cant sneak him into the All-Star Game.In case you were wondering: Yes, we forgot to put Jeremy Lin on the All-Star ballot.

rePost::Five Lies I No Longer Believe | TODD HENRY
“COMFORT IS THE GOAL OF LIFE”
This is a pervasive and sinister belief that has – at times – caused me to compromise more than I should. When I aspire to comfort as the greatest goal of life, I refuse anything that might cause me pain or hardship, even if that means I have to abandon my pursuit of true north.
It is struggle that gives life its meaning, and the pauses and blessings that punctuate its landscape. Sometimes that struggle is against self and the laziness that craves only comfort. The creative process is a personal assault on the beachhead of apathy, and to succumb to the path of comfort is to turn our backs on the greatness that is on the other side of sacrifice. I refuse to allow comfort to be my ambition. Comfort is often the enemy of greatness.

rePost::Overcoming Bias : Best Decade Ever
Not having the best day (although fixing bugs left and right), when people tell me the world is going to the dumps I internally sigh. Save for the Global Warming thing and the Escalation of Chinese and American tension the world is doing fine.
Not only was the last decade the best of my life, it was best for the world:
A lot has changed in the past six years. The economies of the developing world have expanded 50 percent in real terms, despite the Great Recession. Moreover, growth has been particularly high in countries with large numbers of poor people. India and China, of course, but also Bangladesh, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Vietnam, Uganda, Mozambique and Uzbekistan – nine countries that were collectively home to nearly two-thirds of the world’s poor in 2005 – are all experiencing phenomenal economic advances. ..
We updated the World Bank’s official $1.25-a-day figures to reveal how the global poverty landscape has changed. … We estimate that between 2005 and 2010, nearly half a billion people escaped extreme hardship, as the total number of the world’s poor fell to 878 million people. Never before in history have so many people been lifted out of poverty in such a short period. …. The emerging markets of Asia are recording the greatest successes; the two regional giants, China and India, are likely to account for three-quarters of the global reduction between 2005 and 2015. … With few exceptions, however, those who care about global development have been slow to catch on to this story. We hear far more about the 64 million people held back in poverty because of the Great Recession than we do about the hundreds of millions who escaped impoverishment over the past six years. (more)
The greatest surprise, however, is the one taking place in Sub-Saharan Africa. Between 1980 and 2005, the region’s poverty rate had consistently hovered above 50 percent. Given the continent’s high population growth, its number of poor rose steadily. The current period is different. For the first time, Sub-Saharan Africa’s poverty rate has fallen below 50 percent. The total number of poor people in the region is falling too.
Doesn’t sound much like stagnation to me.

RANT::CTC FU
I’ve been very productive the past few days. It seems CTC the job is not as productivity draining as I originally imagined.
I’m CTCing because our clients are inflexible, indecisive, stubborn, know it alls, whose word is law.
No matter if they actually know less of the repercussions of their decisions.
If this continues I may have to find a new job.
rePost::Frank Lloyd Wright's 10-Point Manifesto for His Apprentices. :The Happiness Project
I recently read Frank Lloyd Wright’s Autobiography — a very thought-provoking work. In it, he includes a list of the “Fellowship Assets” that he outlined for the architecture apprentices he worked with at Taliesin, his summer home, studio, and school.
1. An honest ego in a healthy body.
2. An eye to see nature
3. A heart to feel nature
4. Courage to follow nature
5. The sense of proportion (humor)
6. Appreciation of work as idea and idea as work
7. Fertility of imagination
8. Capacity for faith and rebellion
9. Disregard for commonplace (inorganic) elegance
10. Instinctive cooperation

rePost::You can not buy ideas or talent – 37signals
Not so with ideas or talent. These are the purchases of aspiration: Imagine if we took that scrappy idea with those underpaid, hungry champions, and we gave them all the resources in the world. They could paint all the colors of the rainbow and still have pixie dust left to spare!Turns out that good ideas and strong talent is as fickle as it is seducing. As soon as you start making big-company compromises, the good idea turns average, and the average turns into a write-off.Same goes with strong talent. As soon as they have to deal with three layers of reporting, quarterly budget cycles, and swing-door managers, they turn off the creativity and head for the exit. The latter part might take from three months to two years, but it will happen.

Enjoyed Tangled
Finally got to watch Tangled and I really enjoyed it.
Fun to note that is Executive Produced by John Lasseter and is written by Cars scribe Dan Fogelman.
This is an excellent example of buying innovation. Disney as we see from all the 3D re issues of Lion King, Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and much more really was a brand that somewhat lost its way and it took an outside influence reigniting the attention to Story,Script and Characters that are probably the reason why we first came to love Disney Animated Films.
I just hope that the next Disney Pixar sequels would live up to the lofty expectations we have for D/P films.
