MANILA, Philippines — The word “Filipino” will appear as a separate race category in the 2010 national census in the United States, according to recent reports of Filipino-American media outlets.
This means Filipinos in the US will no longer be counted under the general “Asian” category like in the 2000 census.
“They now have a box of their own to describe their ethnicity as a separate and distinct group of people from Asia living in the US,” said the Filipino Reporter newspaper early this week.

This is excellent news, I’ve always been very curious about Filipinos in the US (More than a quarter of my family belongs to this as probably most Filipinos).  Maybe this would clear up many misconceptions we have about Fil-Ams.
