This, incidentally, is the reason why a man often gets depressed after he has sex with a woman for the first time and then she tells him how many lovers she has had because she has had more lovers than he has. A mating version of Feld’s discovery may be termed “Why your lover has had more lovers than you have.” And the reason is the same. There are 12 men who have had a lover who has had (or will have had) 12 lovers, but there is only one man who has had a lover who has had only one lover. But you should be grateful. The reason you got to be her lover in the first place is because she has had (and will likely have) many lovers. You are 12 times as likely to have sex with a woman who has had 12 lovers as you are to have sex with a woman who has had only one lover. Quite paradoxically, if your lover only had one lover, you are probably not him. And if your lover has never had a lover, you are definitely not him.

rePost::Letters of Note: If I cannot live with you I will live alone
Been down in the dumps romantically lately ( this and my ankle sprain are the only thing making my life not fully AWESOME! channeling barney from How I Met Your Mother!!), time to post something mushy, hehehe. From John Keats, read the whole letter!
I do not write this till the last that no eye may catch it.
My dearest Girl,
I wish you could invent some means to make me at all happy without you. Every hour I am more concentrated in you; every thing else tastes like chaff in my Mouth. I feel it almost impossible to go to Italy – the fact is I cannot leave you, and shall never taste one minute’s content until it pleases chance to let me live with you for good. But I will not go on at this rate.

rePost::Jon Stewart Needs Your Help! : The Primate Diaries
I salute The Daily Show people for being ballsy and doing this. Resolving this conflict would make the world a far safer and better place. Let us not drown out the few people who try to do something!
Last night Dr. Barghouti and I were on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart talking about Palestine.
The show was overwhelmed with angry emails and phone calls prior to the appearance, and up until the last minute it seemed like they might cancel. During the taping the show had it’s only heckler in 11 years. The entire staff were very nervous and may come to regret the monumental decision (and not make it again) as they will surely be inundated now that the show has aired.
That is why it is CRUCIAL that the show receive letters of support from anyone who appreciated the interview.
PLEASE take a moment to give a quick thank you to the Daily Show. I’m sure they will likely be affected by numbers rather than length, so it’s OK to make it short, but spread the word to others! Be sure to put “Thank you” in the subject, and maybe Dr. Barghouti & my names. Fill out the form here: http://www.comedycentral.com/help/questionsCC.jhtml (make sure to choose The Daily Show with Jon Stewart as your topic).
I believe the interview wouldn’t have happened 3 years ago. Times are changing. Keep on keepin’ on…

MANILA, Philippines-The Japanese government has allotted 3.350 billion yen grant to the Philippines to improve the country’s weather monitoring and dissemination system.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo and Japanese Ambassador Makoto Katsura on Friday signed and exchanged Notes for the Project for Improvement of the Meteorological Radar System.
The project, to be implemented by Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration and the Department of Science and Technology (PAGASA-DOST) will involve among others, the replacement of the three existing Meteorological Radar Systems in Aparri, Cagayan; Virac, Catanduanes; and Guian, Samar, with new Doppler (S-band) radar systems, the Foreign Affairs department said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has signed an agreement with the South Korean government to develop warning systems for three disaster-prone areas in the Philippines.
Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Undersecretary Graciano Yumul Jr said the South Korean government will provide a grant of $1 million over 2007-2008 for the project. Pagasa is an attached agency of the DOST.
The Koreans will provide weather monitoring facilities in three sites: in Luzon, at the Aurora River Basin in Aurora province; in the Visayas, at the Jaluar River Basin in Iloilo; and in Mindanao, at the Lake Lanao-Agus River Basin in the Lanao provinces.
Yumul said the project sites were chosen because of their vulnerability to extreme climate events.
He added that the project components include the provision of facilities such as automatic weather stations (AWS), automatic rain gauges, digital water level gauges and maintenance vehicles along with the training of Filipino counterparts in South Korea and the sending of experts who will oversee the project.

Elink Vid:UKG Mindanao: PGMA hands over ancestral domain titles to Higaonon tribe
I used to believe that this would set a bad precedent and would fracture the Philippines; but recently, I’ve come to the conclusion that if we want to survive the modern world as a nation we better really learn to embrace our differences while we embrace our similarities. I use to doubt we could. I do not know what has changed either within me or outside of me but I am more hopeful now that we can.
Good job PGMA , we almost never see eye to eye but praise to whom praise is deserved.
Learned Today::The Irony of Henry Adams: The most misunderstood quote evah! : Greg Laden's Blog
Here is Henry Adam’s famous quote translated into modern parlance:
Be careful. The system of education is inadequate, and a half baked attempt to educate is dangerous. A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell how badly fucked up everything will be when he is done with it……..
I had always seen the quote as what most people seem to see to as: The nice phrase you embroider on the pillow and give to your favorite teacher. My friend Josh Borowicz, who happens to be an historian and a Henry Adams scholar, pointed this interesting irony out to me, several months ago. I vowed at that time to blog about it. And now I have.

rePost::SIMON COWELL: A letter to my shallow, reckless, cocky younger self | Mail Online
loved reading this. read the whole thing!
Suddenly it all grinds to a halt. It’s over! The crash comes and your precious company shares, on which you have built your entire financial position, turn to dust overnight. The great big cork has popped on your champagne lifestyle – and not a moment too soon, as far as I’m concerned.
You are out of a job because the record label cannot be funded anymore, you owe the bank a fortune and your house is in negative equity. Out of the blue, you have no income, a ton of debt and nowhere to live, apart from moving back in with your parents.
In the end, you cannot get rid of the house or the stupid white Porsche quick enough. You have hit rock bottom and it is, in a strange way, a huge relief.
Yet the funny thing is, what you don’t know, Simon, is that you will never again feel so carefree in your entire life.
For a brief moment, you have no responsibilities. Literally none. No employees, no artists, no worries, nothing to fear. You have a car, a second-hand TR6, that you love much more than your Porsche.
Your parents are fantastic and you have enough decent friends – real friends – who don’t laugh at you or ditch you because you are not the big shot any more.
