rePost:Movie Review of The Expendables:PewPewPew on that Test Screening of THE EXPENDABLES — Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

I’m really excited to watch this!!!! Read the whole thing!!

Obviously, Sly is no James Cameron – and he doesn’t care to be. This isn’t a film you watch with 3-D glasses on. This is a throwback to the pre-special effects days and I found that jarring at first – What, a movie with no blue people?! – but as the film went on, I was cheering and pumping my fists with the rest of the crowd.
As for specific scenes, there are a number of memorable ones that I’m sure we’ll be dissecting for ages – Statham on the basketball court, the explosion on the dock, the tunnel fight and especially the extended climax at the end (where nothing and no one is left standing).
At the end of the day, I really admire what Sly has done here. He’s always had this ability to write strong character-driven stories. What makes The Expendables unique is that there are at least 10 compelling characters to follow… Here’s hoping there’s a sequel!
Signing off,

Best Read:: Something that really bugs me about the recent Star Trek movie: Tor.com / Science fiction and fantasy

This has ruined the Star Wars reboot for me, read the whole thing if you dare. Damn didn’t think of that.
Damn reminds me of what a friend says about reboot Spock. Reboot Spock was an asshole counter to the original series spock where he was irritating not for being an asshole but for being sooo damn logical.

Something that really bugs me about the recent Star Trek movie
Mitch Wagner
There’s a scene at the end of the movie—and I don’t think this is a spoiler, the movie has been building to this point the whole time—where Kirk has the bad guy on the main bridge viewscreen. The bad guy is defeated, his ship crippled, and Kirk offers amnesty. The bad guy proudly refuses, and instead dies with his ship.
Spock approaches Kirk afterward and asks if Kirk was really going to help the bad guy out. And Kirk smirks and says, no, of course not. Spock is happy about that.
It seems to me that one scene spits in the face of one of the greatest things about the original Trek. The show was primarily an action-adventure program, with plenty of fistfights and stirring ship-to-ship battle. But in the end, Gene Roddenberry and the rest of the people who created Trek were espousing a philosophy of peace and forgiveness. Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise extended forgiveness to enemies many times, including the very first time they encountered the Romulans, in a sequence that the movie echoes.
The message of Trek: It’s better to talk than to fight. It’s better to forgive your enemies.

rePost::Natalie Portman's lesbian terror | ABS-CBN News Online Beta

Promise, I wouldn’t watch it just for the liplock. ehehe.

Natalie Portman was “terrified” when she had to kiss Mila Kunis in her new movie “Black Swan.”
The actress has a steamy same-sex scene with the “Max Payne” star in the supernatural thriller and admits she struggled to overcome her nerves before locking lips with another lady.
She said: “I was terrified. At the moment I lived in a state of inner terror.”
Portman – who previously shot a nude scene for short film 'Hotel Chevalier' – is also worried the lesbian sex sequence is overshadowing the plot of the film and worries it will make her be taken less seriously as an actress.
She added: “Nudity is something absolutely natural and I'm not prudish – but in a film it can be distracting. Doing 'Black Swan' I couldn't say no. The project is a huge opportunity for me to show a new me. I can't always play the nice mothers. My other problem is that single pictures are being taken out of context and put on the internet.”

Film::Of the feel of theaters and audiences, and eight films from Sundance – Roger Ebert's Journal

I first heard of two films that I loved watching in the after Sundance blog posts. These films I loved are “Brick” and “500 Days of Summer” (If only “The Assassination of a Highschool President” took of, but it seems it was too close to brick that it wasn’t viewed as favourably by distributors). This is why as friend jason said we were one of the first to get excited about “500 Days of Summer”. Hope I can be at Sundance one day (Keep On Dreaming). This is a nice primer from favorite film critic Ebert on some films from Sundance.
Hope you can read the whole linked post!!!

jack.jpgI saw my final film of Sundance 2010 here in Chicago. It was my best Sundance experience, and I want to tell you why. The film was “Jack Goes Boating,” the directorial debut of Philip Seymour Hoffman. It played here in the Music Box, as part of the “Sundance USA” outreach program, which has enlisted eight art theaters around the country to play Sundance entries while the festival is still underway.

Elink Video:: Tekken Movie Trailer!!!

This looks cool!!!! A vengeance type of tale, looks interesting!!!! I wonder how much they are going to change from the admittedly thin backstories of the characters!!! thanks to cgt for the pointer
PS: According to the youtube page this is an independent movie, and that is the reasons the character’s look were consistent with the video game. Nice!!!!!

Funny:Jessica Zafra on Paano Na Kaya:18. What have we done to deserve this? | JessicarulestheUniverse

So Kim and Gerald play best friends since high school, Kim is a complete doormat for love, and Gerald has a few scenes in which he ruminates on life while standing in the shower. Yes, because the shower is the perfect place to ponder the big questions of life, particularly if you have those abs. Like the typical Star Cinema product no one has any real problems; what they really need is to have a strong cup of coffee and get over themselves.
…………..
But when the movie ended there was applause anyway, because all the audience really wants is to see Kim being pretty and Gerald being handsome. Nothing they don’t already see on TV. For free. I expect it will be a huge hit.

Film:Up In The Air: A reader asks: Why is Larry doing his big Sun announcement tomorrow?

The quote is what George Clooney’s character in Up In The Air loves to say when he is firing people. Just have to say that this movie evoked my emotions, and for that I believe it is worth watching. I watched In Good Company last friday when I was at home sick and I have to say that I somehow forgot how beautifully made that film was. There are feature films that resonate anytime, while some films although good enough on their own is transformed when you are living it and watching the film doesn’t feel phony.
PS1:: Some people who built empires have never been fired. Read about some of the serial entrepreneur who never had to work for anyone but themselves their whole lives.
PS2:: Up in the air, and In Good Company are splendid films. Up in the air has so many funny/witty/smart quotes and exchanges between the characters.

Before you all start complaining about being let go, let’s be honest. You guys at Sun drove a once-great company into the ground. Who in their right mind would buy Sun and keep its employees? On the bright side, anybody who ever built an empire or changed the world sat where you are right now.

rePost::Sundance Movie Review: Buried | /Film

Nice review. My interest is slightly up.

For me this film works on every level. It achieves so much with so little. It is not only an amazing example of what minimalistic filmmaking can accomplish, but it is a great film in its own right. I have no idea if people will see it – or want to see it. The sell might/could be hard — it’s such a crazy concept, and I can understand why people might think this film could/would be boring. But this is the type of film that you show all your friends. I could definitely see this being the next word-of-mouth viral blockbuster, following in Paranormal Activity’s footsteps.
