Who I am
This website, https://onthe8spot.com, is run by Giancarlo Angulo in Quezon City, Philippines. You can reach me at giancarlo.angulo@gmail.com. My case studies live on a second site, https://cases.onthe8spot.com. This policy covers both.
What personal data I collect and why
- Comments. When you leave a comment I collect what the form asks for (name, email, an optional website and your comment). I also collect your IP address and browser details to help catch spam. Your email is not shown publicly. A scrambled version of your email may go to Gravatar to check for a profile picture (privacy policy). Once a comment is approved, your picture is visible next to it.
- Server logs. My web server records your IP address, the date and time, the pages you ask for, your browser and where you came from. I use this for security and for fixing problems. Logs are kept about 14 days.
- Visitor statistics. I use Jetpack Stats, from Automattic. It records page views, referring sites, approximate location and device and browser type.
- Email. If you email me, I use your address and message only to reply to you.
- Contact forms. This site has no contact form. Please email me.
- Media. If you upload images, avoid ones with location data (EXIF GPS), because visitors can download and read it.
Cookies
The site does not set cookies when you just browse. If you leave a comment and tick the box to save your details, cookies remember your name, email and website for one year. Only I log in to this site, and logging in sets cookies that last a couple of days. Embedded content from other websites may set its own cookies. The case-studies site sets no cookies of its own.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content, for example videos or posts from other sites. It behaves as if you had visited that other site. These sites may collect data about you, use cookies and track how you interact with the embed.
Who I share your data with
I don’t sell your data and I don’t use it for advertising. These services handle data for me:
- Google Cloud hosts the site.
- Cloudflare runs the domain’s DNS and hosts the case-studies site, so it sees visitors’ IP addresses there.
- Automattic provides Jetpack, Akismet spam checks, Gravatar and image delivery.
- Mailgun handles email for the domain, and Gmail is my mailbox.
Where your data goes
Some of these services are outside the Philippines, mostly in the United States. By using the site, you accept that your data can be processed there.
How long I keep your data
Approved comments are kept so I can recognize repeat commenters. Ask me and I’ll remove yours. Server logs are kept about 14 days. Backups of the site database, which include comments, are kept for up to about 30 days.
Your rights
Under the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012, you can ask to see, correct, block or erase your data, object to how it is used, and receive a copy. Email me and I’ll respond. You can also complain to the National Privacy Commission (privacy.gov.ph).
How I protect your data
The site uses HTTPS, security updates install automatically, and only I have access to it.
If something goes wrong
If your data is exposed, I will tell the people affected and the National Privacy Commission as the law requires.
Other
I don’t receive your data from third parties. I don’t make automated decisions about you, apart from the spam filter on comments. No industry rules require extra disclosures.
