When you experience someone else\u2019s\u00a0genius work<\/a>, a little part of you feels, \u201cThat\u2019s what I could have, would have, and should have done!\u201d
\nSomeone else did it. You didn\u2019t.
\nThey fought the\u00a0resistance<\/a>. You gave in to distractions.
\nThey made it top priority. You said you\u2019d get to it some day.
\nThey took the time.\u00a0<\/strong>You meant to.
\nWhen this happens, you can take it two ways:
\nYou could let that part of you give up. \u201cOh well. Now I don\u2019t need to make that anymore.\u201d
\nOr you could do something about that jealous pain. Shut off your phone, kill the distractions, make it top priority, and spend the time.
\nIt takes many hours to make what you want to make.\u00a0The hours don\u2019t suddenly appear. You have to steal them from comfort.\u00a0<\/strong>Whatever you were doing before was comfortable. This is not. This will be\u00a0really<\/em>\u00a0uncomfortable.
\nThe few times in my life I\u2019ve made a real change like this, it felt\u00a0awful<\/strong>\u00a0on the surface. I wasn\u2019t shallow-happy about it. I wasn\u2019t smiling. I was annoyed and fighting it inside, but on the outside I did the work. And in the end, got the deeper satisfaction of finishing.<\/p>\n
