I still remember a scene where <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Sam Seaborn\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sam_Seaborn\">Sam Seaborn<\/a>&#8216;s\u00a0 declarations, I pay a lot of <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Tax\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tax\">taxes<\/a> and I love it! I may have an <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Health\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Health\">unhealthy<\/a> regard for my abilities but I have no doubt that in the crucial ways I am me because i was fortunated enough to be born to my parents. I was lucky, this was no fault\/act of mine. Taxation is a transfer, I love paying taxes, just hope there was more ways to ensure that the transfer is not a transfer to the swiss bank acounts of government officials! .read the whole thing!<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>But of course, these are only a part of the link between the state and <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Inequality\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Inequality\">inequality<\/a>.  Tawneyite <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Socialism\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Socialism\">socialists<\/a> claim that spending on (say) health and <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Education\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Education\">education<\/a> are forces for <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Social equality\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Social_equality\">equality<\/a>.<br \/>\nBut are they? <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Julian Le Grand\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Julian_Le_Grand\">Julian Le Grand<\/a> famously argued in a book in 1982 that the rich actually got more than the poor from these services &#8211; a claim supported more recently by the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Joseph Rowntree (philanthropist)\" rel=\"homepage\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jrf.org.uk\">Joseph Rowntree Foundation<\/a>.<br \/>\nIn the case of <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Health care\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Health_care\">healthcare<\/a>, the claim is also supported by this paper (pdf). One reason for this is that the poor under-estimate their ill-health and so are less likely to make claims on the health system.
